The refugees who seek asylum, they form a subgroup of immigrants and various researches focused on this group of immigrants, found a likewise pattern in respect to citizens attitudes (Opeskin Ghezelbash, 2015). Vigorous researches made it sure that gender, age, education political and socio economic views affect the attitudes towards the immigrants who seek asylum. It is seen that the factual evidences this article portrays, means that the governments are nowadays stressing on these issues and that can bring some level of motivation and confidence among the refugees across the globe seeking protection. It is a fact that there are many negative remarks regarding this issue is made by the people who are of very low educational background, without having proper knowledge of the outside world and from poor socio-economic background (Tay, 2013). Apart from them people from different nations are uniting for the cause of this burning issue that our world is facing nowadays. According to this article, there are a lot of hidden ideologies behind these practices as this has been a problem since the birth of mankind but in todays market this issue has become a lot more serious than ever due to various political unrests in few areas of the globe (Barnes Barnes, 2017). In many countries it is seen that the refugees seeking asylum are living a life in hellish condition as the refugee camps are lacks basic sanitary amenities, the hygiene is poor and the food they receive are of very low nutrition value. Sometimes they get victimized by human traffickers and even by the army or police (Atak, Hudson Nakache, 2017). Women and kids get abused sexually or they are sold to human traffickers at times. In short it can be said that governments barely look at their sufferance in most of the times. It is a fact that, sometimes government looks at this huge refugee camps like a cheap human source and employ them in various works giving them very low wages or no wages. In this article it has been portrayed that the world is changing and the world leaders are looking at these issues more practically and they are investing a lot of time and money to improve the conditions of the political refugees and this article shows clearly that some changes need to be done immediately. This is a burning issue in todays world that can be a potential threat to the basic rights of man and this need to be stopped immediately (Koleth, 2012). Silverman, S. J., Nethery, A. (2014). Introduction: Understanding Immigration Detention. Understanding Immigration Detention Purpose The purpose of this article is to portray many ideas about mandatory detention can be acquired and those are discussed in the summary. In short it can be said that, the people who are accused of immigration detention are generally imprisoned without any proper investigation to justify whether their detention is justified or not. Impact on people According to this article, the illegal refugees get detained as they fail to meet some administrative criterions, and the immigration detention can be implemented on the individuals of a whole category not considering what circumstances they have gone through (Silverman Nethery, 2014). There is another issue with immigration detainees and that is they do not have any basic idea of how long they have to serve in the prison sells as in some cases, some individuals were seen serving in prison for over a decade (Phillips Spinks, 2013). Generally, two types of individuals are detained due to immigration issues around the globe. The first category is individuals who are noncitizen of a particular nation and they entered the territory of a particular country or they are found to cross the border line to trespass to another country illegally. The latter categories of individuals are someone, who is staying in a particular nation without a valid visa or passport, and after when the investig ations are done they get arrested. In most cases people from these two categories get detained. Changes noticed The focus of this portfolio is also on the changes that can be brought in regarding this issue where the detention of the individuals who seek asylums, as there are some important legal, political, moral and practical issues those the detention of asylum seekers raise (Dastyari, 2015). Asylum seekers are those, who are leaving their own countries due to political unrest or any issues and trying to seek protection from other countries, for an example the citizens of Syria are seeking shelter due to the unrest in their mother land nowadays. In this case it is worth mentioning that, according to 1951 Geneva Convention related to the refugee convention, a refugee is an individual who has been given protection status under Article 1(a) in the Refugee Convention. It is an important issue that, a minor faction of the 42 million people who are living in a refugee like situation in the world, either has official refugee status, or they have access to the UNHCR or a delegate state to seek prot ection. Some of them live in the refugee camps and others survive in the network of the ethnic groups, it is a fact that their life is full of insecurities and some of them have to go to a state where they can gain an official refugee status and a chance to start afresh (Landau Amit, 2014). Hidden ideas From this article, it can be said that there are some hidden intentions of the government of some countries, and those are using this huge manpower at a very cheap rate, or suing them for political purposes, and that is something very wrong as they are seeking help and using them for anyones benefit would be against the ethics. Canetti, D., Snider, K., Pedersen, A., Hall, B. (2017).Threatened or Threatening? How Ideology Shapes Asylum Seekers Immigration Policy Attitudes in Israel and Australia. Retrieved 16 August 2017, from Threatened or Threatening Purpose The purpose of this journal is to portray some serious issues regarding mandatory detention can be found and those are mentioned here. It is been a fact that the laws regarding mandatory detention of the political refugees are unjustified and the impact of these laws are very harmful to the people around the world (Canetti et al., 2017). Impact on people Nowadays looking at the shady sides of these laws, people are generally supporting the refugees and they want them to stay and take protection. In todays world, looking at the global politics and situations, there are innumerable people out there seeking help and protection from various nations as their mother land is war-damaged. Governments sometimes look at the refugees like burdens and sometimes they think that those people would make the population over burdened and the country would lose its normal socio-economic balance (Erakat, 2014). Much needed changes It is also a fact that many among the refugees are highly qualified and can potentially help to develop the condition of the country where they are seeking protection. The government needs to understand that they have lost everything apart from their life and it would be nice to stand beside them and not to throw them to some prison cells or keep them in refugee camps and not doing something for them (Mitropoulos, 2015). It is a fact that looking at the oppressions the refugees face in todays world many countries along with United Kingdom and Australia are taking initiatives in amending the laws related to this issue. Hidden Ideas From this article, it can be said that government officials of various countries look at the flow of political refugees like a source of extra income or scapegoats for varieties of scams. Some politicians and government officials use them for their own good and makes huge money, and if they get caught,, they blame these innocents and these people who have already lost everything goes back behind the bars and this evil process needs to be tamed as this practice can destroy the trust and bond between people (Erakat, 2014). The Ultimate College Graduation Checklist

The Ultimate College Graduation Checklist Graduation is coming, and you most likely are dealing with ten million things at the same time. On top of trying to make sure you pass your last semesters classes, you probably have family visiting, friends you want to spend some time with, and countless logistics to deal with before you can actually leave, diploma in hand, as a college graduate. Wouldnt it be nice if you had a handy college graduation checklist you could use to keep things organized? This list is meant to make the college graduation process a little easier. After all, after four (or more!) years of hard work, sleepless nights, and a lot of dedication, you deserve a little break! College Graduation Checklist Return your cap and gown on time - These are expensive if you forget to return them when youre supposed to.Leave a forwarding address with the campus mail center and the alumni center - Even if its just your folks or a friends address as you sort things out, you dont want to lose your mail amidst your transition.Make sure you dont have any charges in your residence hall or apartment before you check out - Its much easier to deal with this on move-out day than two months later when you get hit with a whopper of a bill. Stay an extra 20 minutes and have someone (an RA or landlord) sign something saying you wont be charged for anything unexpected.Check in with the career center - Even if it just means getting a login and password so you can search their job databases later, utilizing their resources after graduation will be a lifesaver.Complete an exit interview if youre on financial aid - Most students receiving financial aid will need to complete an exit interview before being allowed to graduate. This can often be done on your computer and involves reading information about when your payments will begin to be due, etc. But not completing it can prevent you from getting your diploma. Make sure everything is cleared on your account in the financial aid and registrars office - The last thing you need is to be about to start a new job or graduate school, only to learn that theres a problem with your college account that you need to fix. Make sure both offices have everything they need from you before you leave campus.Check with the alumni office for deals on short-term insurance - From health insurance to car insurance, many alumni offices now offer programs to graduating seniors. Figure out what programs your school offers and what youre eligible for so that you dont have to spend too much time (or money!) searching for alternatives.Get copies of all your loan (and other) papers - From your housing contract to your loan paperwork, get copies of everything youll need down the road. This will be especially handy if there are any problems after you graduate.Compile all your electronic files in one place - When your computer was acting cranky two months ago, you may ha ve saved your amazing midterm paper on your roommates computer. Gather together all of your important documents (that you might need for job applications, writing samples, or graduate school) in one place, ideally stored in the cloud so you can access it wherever and whenever you need to. Grab a few copies of your transcript - You may think you wont need them, but you might also be surprised. New jobs, volunteer programs, and all kinds of folks may want to see your transcript after you graduate. Having a few with you will save you a lot of time, money, and trouble.Update your address with anyone who sends you a bill - This can include your bank, your cell phone provider, your loan companies, and your credit card companies. You may be so busy moving and looking for a job that you wont realize you havent received a phone bill for three months after you graduate at least until your service gets cut off.Get contact information for your references - Knowing where your references will be over the next few months, as well as how to reach them, may make or break you in certain situations. Who wants to miss out on a great job simply because a reference was unreachable while doing research in France? A quick email, phone call, or office visit to ensure you have everyones conta ct information is a smart idea. Get contact information for your friends - People will be so busy on graduation day, and there will be so many people around, that getting contact information from your friends will be mission: impossible. While social networking sites are a great place to start, having an actual email and phone number is best.Write thank-you notes - Sure, it may seem old-fashioned, but writing thank-you notes to those who helped you the most during your time on campus, to those who gave you graduation gifts, and to anyone else who helped you along the way is a kind gesture and a great way to make sure you leave college on a high note.

Summary - Article Example The decision to prohibit the operations of coal plants is a remarkable turnaround since 2007 for the reason that the prior boost in the prices of natural gas suggested an increase in the construction of new coal-fired power plants. Though, recently, less than a hundred of these power plants underwent development because of the unpredictability of regulations over climate change. Evident resistance to the use of coal for the production of electricity is strongly articulated by the public and top scientists whom as well contributed hampering of the operations of new plants. For James Hansen, a NASA scientist, the most decisive step for rescuing the earth at present is to obstruct the building of new coal-fire power plants with no capability to store and emit CO2. On the other hand, the electricity sector is now vulnerable to climate change regulations and the new research on coal-powered plants presents an important image of the effect of coal-plants banning to the price of

Theological Language and Digital Media Research Paper

Theological Language and Digital Media - Research Paper Example This essay is about the relationship between theology and the digital media. More specifically, this essay discusses how theological ideas might better be communicated digitally. Thus, this essay includes a comprehensive analysis of the nature of theological language and the challenges they face in the 21st century, and how digital methods and tools could enhance communication of theology. Historical Overview Before discussing the contemporary relationship between theology and the media, it is important to take into consideration the influence of the codex book on current interpretations of theology. Throughout the history of Christianity, the codex Bible has been used not just as a book of narratives, insights, and guidelines but as the medium of mystical transformation and spiritual communication (Elwell 2011, 15). When Anthony Bernard learned Matthew 19:21 and surrendered all his material belongings to lead a Christian life, or when Agnes Ozman personified the declaration of gloss olalia, in every chapter, a person was changed spiritually by God’s divine utterance (Kling 2004, 311). The codex Bible has been a life-transforming testimony. The codex Bible is not only a life-transforming instrument but are reconstructed and revived in the historical and discursive practice. As a specific text evolves over time, it goes through different interpretations and relevance. For example, African Americans translated the exodus narrative into their own narrative-- first a narrative of emancipation from slavery, then eventually God’s salvation from all kinds of repression and abuse. In certain instances a text which is dead eventually becomes alive (Soukup, Buckley, & Robinson 2009, 3). For instance, Matt. 16:18-19, or also called the Petrine text, was dead for hundreds of years before it was summoned as an evidence of the pre-eminence of Rome’s bishop. A specific book of Scripture works to authorise what has already taken place or to strengthen the e xisting context of opinion. In certain instances, nevertheless, texts are clearly quoted to validate a current historical truth. For instance, the Petrine text embodies a â€Å"retreat from exegesis to later history,† (Fouracre 2005, 745) because it was quoted as the biblical evidence for the pre-eminence of Rome’s bishop. A developing field in the conversion of the Bible is the presentation of the codex book in digital formats. The theological language was a largely oral tradition wherein the readings were read vocally, normally in group contexts. Contemporary bibles are printed manuscripts (Waters 2006, 71). The technological world introduces the digital media or electronic formats. Books contend with digital technologies like computer, television, film, and so on. The digital world presents new media for the translation of the Bible. What is discussed here is the issue of actual translation, not merely the issue of how to create multimedia productions or films †˜adapted from’ the Bible. This relationship between digital media and ancient Bible translation perhaps clarify why several scholars of biblical media are particularly interested not just in the study of new media for translating and presenting the Bible but also in bringing back antique oral types of Bible presentation (Knauss & Ornella 2007, 116). This twofold interest is particularly apparent in the work of Thomas Boomershine—a widely renowned lecturer and author in the translation o

Declaration of Independence vs. Gettysburg Address Essay Example for Free

Declaration of Independence vs. Gettysburg Address Essay The Declaration of Independence and the Gettysburg Address are glimpses into America’s history. They were written in two different time periods: America’s first years in 1776 and the Civil War in the 1800’s. Despite their time gap, they are similar because they both explain to the reader what is going on during their time period. However, the country was going through different events and so these two documents are diverse as well. Both The Declaration of Independence and the Gettysburg Address were written during times of turmoil and change for the country. Both occurred during a time of war in which America was fighting for liberty and freedoms. During the Revolutionary War, the United States was trying to become â€Å"a new nation, conceived in Liberty, and dedicated to the proposition that all men are created equal†. It was battling for independence and the right to govern them in a way that would actually benefit the country and its people. So in 1776 when The Declaration of Independence was written, the country fought for freedom for themselves. During the Civil War, the country was divided in two, one half of the country fighting against the other half. They were independent as a country, but this time they were fighting for freedom for others—the African-American slaves. In a way though, America was fighting for equality both times. The first was equal treatment for the British citizens and American colonists. The second time, the country was fighting for equal treatment for all men, no matter what skin color. Both these eras were a time of testing for the United States. The Revolutionary War period determined whether the states would actually be able to achieve independence. The Civil War was a test to see if America would be able to keep that independence. President Abraham Lincoln spoke about this in his Gettysburg Address: â€Å"we are engaged in a great civil war, testing whether that nation, or any nation so conceived and so dedicated, can long endure†. These two documents are similar because they are both written about a time of battle which tested America’s strength. The Declaration of Independence and Gettysburg Address are different for several reasons. For one, The Declaration of Independence is a statement while the Gettysburg Address was a speech. The authors were also targeting different audiences. The Declaration of Independence was written mostly for themselves, but also for the British government. The Declaration stated the sentiments of the thirteen colonies and â€Å"the causes which impel them to the separation†. This clarified where the people stood in regards to their independence. This was for the benefit and organization of the country, but also for the British to know that the Americans were not giving up on independence. The Gettysburg Address was a speech given by President Abraham Lincoln to the people of America. The Civil War was not an international conflict, but rather one inside the nation. The speech was aimed for encouraging and touching the hearts of the American people. Lincoln wanted them to not give up on the cause they were fighting for, but â€Å"to be here dedicated to the great task remaining before us†. In the Gettysburg Address, the president was appealing to the people’s emotions in order to boost their war effort. This is another difference it has with The Declaration of Independence. The Declaration of Independence appealed to the British government about rights that the people ought to have. The tone of the Gettysburg Address is more personal since Lincoln’s goal was to encourage the people. Lincoln achieves a personal tone by speaking about the brave men who fought in the recent battle. The Declaration of Independence, on the other hand, was written as a political document with a formal tone. It lists the main reasons why the people were demanding independence, which were mostly due to Great Britain’s offenses against the colonies. The Declaration of Independence and the Gettysburg Address are very distinct because they were appealing to different audiences and written in different tones. The Declaration of Independence and the Gettysburg Address have several similarities and differences. Although they were written during different time periods, they both fight for liberty, freedom, and equality. However, the two documents, one a statement and the other a letter, were targeted at different audiences. This results in differing tones. One thing similar, both documents were written with a courage and passion for the goal it was fighting for.

Unwinding the Spool of Civilization in Pontings The Green History of the World and Quinns Ishmael :: Green History of the World Essays

Unwinding the Spool of Civilization in Ponting's The Green History of the World and Quinn's Ishmael  Ã‚   Clive Ponting's The Green History of the World and Daniel Quinn's Ishmael both critique the dominant paradigms of modern human civilization-especially where its relationship with environment is concerned. Both feel strongly that we are in trouble. Neither are quite willing to make final connections and present us with a systematic method for getting out of our impending ecological crisis, but they both do spell out what has been wrong, what is wrong now, and what will happen should we choose not to take evasive action. In the absence of similar works "in the canon" it is hard not to feel as though, (as the character Ishmael promised), if you accept their premises you are doomed to isolation for, those who see the future most clearly are usually outcasts, lost as to what power they may have to change minds and directions. Enlightenment almost always comes at a price, often steep. In the interest of exploring the necessity of dissent, let's follow that line of environmental thought a little further. Ponting presents us with the scientific/cultural evidence that backs up what Quinn is saying: that we as a species are destroying our foundations even as we proclaim our creation-Civilization-a success. If this massive breakdown and foreboding future are certainties, then we must ask-as Quinn does-who or what is telling us lies to make us believe otherwise? His character Ishmael calls it "Mother Culture" and insists that its pervasive voice acts to keep us on course even when large portions of the population have every reason to lose hope in Her tenets. This all-powerful entity would, presumably, include most educational establishments and media outlets, and so information to the contrary would rarely be funded or reported, and probably never directly emphasized. Which leaves us with a challenge: using Thomas Kuhn's model for change in the social sciences, we must endeavor to see if the Ponting/Quinn paradigm for all civilization is merely a shift in attitude or-as would be difficult for Kuhn to imagine-an entirely new realization that carries with it remedies for the penalties it warns of. If this is a shift back in paradigm, to hunter-gatherer or Noble Savage imagery, then the potential for civil disruption is great. With the stakes of annihilation as high as they are presented, such a shift could justify sweeping political/economic reform that-in the absence of the believed-in reality-would only place more of the Earth's population in positions of subsistence and subservience.

Catcher in the Rye Song

The song â€Å"Talk†, by Coldplay is about feeling confused about life, especially about the future, and needing to talk with someone about it in order to get all the worries and concerns and fears out in the open, and hopefully try to figure out a solution to them. It is like a conversation between two people, one the person needing help, and the other the advisor. In states, â€Å"tell me how you feel.. well I feel like they’re talking in a language I don’t speak. † This song relates to Holden because its about the loneliness and depression of Holden. The tone of this song is loneliness and isolation. The mood it puts me in is lonely, heartbroken and depressed. The symbol for this song about Holden is the red hat because when he puts it on, he feels safe and makes him feel happier. This song is saying if you talk to someone about what your going through then you will feel better and get through things easier. I think the red hat symbols this song because when Holden puts in on he feels protected and in the song it saying to talk to someone and have a friend there to make you feel protected and cares for you.In the song, it states, When Holden is trying to tell people â€Å"You'll tell anyone who will listen but you feel ignored nothing's really making any sense at all,† is like when Holden is always trying to tell people about himself or about what he thinks about, but no one seems to care and Holden feels like he’s being ignored. For example, when he talks about the ducks in central park, the taxi driver refuses to talk to him about it, calling him stupid. The title it’s self says a lot about Holden already. The title of this song is â€Å"Talk†, which is something Holden doesn’t do much and such do more of. He likes to keep things to himself and when he does talk, people ignore him and think he is weird. Holden doesn’t like to talk to other people about what he’s going through becaus e he feels like they wont care so he doesn’t talk about anything and I feel like Holden should talk to people about what he’s going through so he could have feel like he’s cared for and to get advice and have a someone to guide him to the right direction. When the song says, â€Å"they're talking a language I don't speak† its about how Holden feels so disconnected from everyone else. He felt like everyone was a fake throughout the novel and that he couldn't relate to anyone. The music is very slow and mellow and makes me feel empty inside and when they sing, they say the lyrics very slowly and calm. The chorus is about all the possibilities that life holds, and all the things that we can achieve. In the song is says, â€Å"you could climb a ladder up to the sun, or write a song nobody had sung, or do something that’s never been done. † This song is also talking about his deceased brother, saying how he is â€Å"scared about the future† because he has been in and out of schools so many times it will definitely affect him. This song is about the sadness felt at not having his brother around to give him advice during a difficult time in his life. It's really sad and emotional and the guitar riffs emphasize the anguish and strong emotion.I can relate to this song. It's clearly about trying desperately to talk to someone about something but they can never speak of what's on their mind because they can never get through to anyone, so they keep their feelings to themselves. The main theme of this song is no matter what we do in life, we never do it alone. I think this song is about losing someone you really care about and finding a way to ‘talk’ but can’t get through to them through spirit. It seems to be a song about not relating to the rest of the world, and wondering what the future holds.

Marketing Plan Essay

Introduction Marketing plan plays a key role in business management. The essay would explain and cover what is a marketing plan, its role and nature, structure of marketing plan, the relationship between a marketing plan and a business plan, the uses of marketing plan, elements of marketing plan, the purpose of each element, the links between marketing plan elements and their independence, the misconception between marketing plans and the conclusion. The role and Nature of Marketing Plan The role of marketing plan is to clarify the key marketing element in a business and it plans the objectives, directions and activities of the business and employees. Marketing plan broadens the perspective which is outlined in a business plan. The role of marketing plan is to focus on four issues, i.e. promotion, price, product and the place. A marketing plan has its nature. It is a written document that states the key actions to achieve the marketing objectives. The marketing plan covers a period of one to five years. It can be part of the entire business plan. A Marketing plan which has no strategic foundation is not that effective. The importance of this is to specify the plan from the general objectives to single action plan of one marketing program (Fifield, 2007). The formal marketing plan is very critical as it provides an unambiguous reference point for the activities to be performed in the planning period. The benefit of these plans is in the planning activity itself. This process gives a unique opportunity and focused discussions between the persons involved. The marketing plan and the associated discussions then provides an agreed plan for the subsequent management activities including those not described in the plan itself. A classic marketing plan appears in the form of budgets. Since they are quantified, they are very essential (Ferrell, 2008). Therefore, they  represent the projection of actions and the expected results. The main role of marketing budgets is to put together all costs and revenues which were involved in marketing into a single comprehensive document. Marketing plan is used to monitor the performance in practice. A marketing plan should start with a brief summary of the recommendations and the main goals. This summary helps the senior management to get the major thrust. The table of contents then follows and it outlines the plan and the supporting rationale and operational detail follows the executive summary (Luther, 2011). Discussion of what is a marketing plan? What is the relationship between a marketing plan and a business plan? What are marketing plans used for? A marketing plan can be defined as a business document which is written with the aim of describing the market position of the business and its marketing strategy for a given time in the marketing plan. The marketing plan describes the advertising efforts for the coming years, and it includes a statement of the situation of marketing, the discussions of markets targeted, the position of the company and the description of plans which intend to be used to reach marketing goals (McDonald, 2007). The relationship between marketing plan and business plans Business plan are written so as to prove the value and feasibility of new ideas of the business. A business plan is drafted when opening a new business and the plan should be reviewed and adjusted especially when the operations have expanded or diversified. The business objectives and the strategy of value creation are included in the business plan (Jain, 2009). The business plan also provides a wide overview of the business like, operations, information of staff, marketing, location and financial aspects. Sometimes, business plan is used as a financial tool where it provides the lenders with the necessary information if the business is viable, financially stable and able to repay. Business plan does not only help in developing competitive strategies, but also it determines if the business activity matches the forecasted plans (Burrow, 2012). In marketing plans, it analyzes the potential customers of the products and explains what motivates them to buying. This enables the organization to fine tune their products or services to attract and keep customers. Then marketing plan also includes the nature of the competition, market size, potential price and the  potential strategies for reaching the customers. Market plan identifies price points, competition and target markets. It tries to explain how the organization attracts customers through trade show participation, advertisements and new referrals. It also explains how the business will overcome the competitive problems from other businesses (Pride, 2012). Uses of marketing plans The market plan can be very important when introducing a new product or service or even a line of new products. These plans should have details that will ensure the product would be successful in the market and to the intended customers. The company should write a market plan for each new services or products since each product needs a different approach to sell it (Jain, 2009). The market plans can also be drafted when a certain company has a plan to seek gestures from new market. For instance, a company in a particular state and planning to move into another state and compete with another market may need ways on how to market their services and products in the new location. Therefore, the market plan is written before the company is migrated (McDonald, 2007). Market plan is set to help the business set and achieve their goals. This plan includes information of the products offered in the company and how they will help the company achieve its goals. A market plan is also set to direct, establish, and coordinate a company’s sales. First the market plan defines the purpose of the specific plan, which is then followed by specific and clear directions of putting the plans in place (Ferrell, 2008). The other plan tries to explain and coordinate the methods for marketing task. Structure of Marketing Plan The structure of business plan can be designed in different ways. The plan can be a few thought scrawled on a bar napkin or it can be a high PowerPoint show. The most commonly used structure is the AOSTC format. This format stands for analysis, objective, tactics, and control. All these sections act differently in an organization (Fifield, 2007). Analysis- this section deals with the situation of the company at the time the plan is drafted. It is made of two subsections which are external audit and internal audit. The internal audit handles and talks more about the situation and what goes on in the company that affects marketing, like sales history, budgets and  structure. On the other hand, external audit focuses on the outside environment in response to its effect on the plan. The outside considerations include competition, opportunities industry news and events (Luther, 2001). The other is the strategies and Tactics- it is used to outline the ways of achieving the objectives one by one. The strategies deal with the big picture and tactics handles the details. For instance, increase internet presence is usually a strategy. Establishing a face book page or a web page presence would be tactics in that strategy (McDonald, 2007). For good strategies and tactic, they take in account both analysis and objectives sections of the plan. Control- this is how you measure progress in the achievement of the objective. This section is controlled by the timed and measurable nature of the set objectives. The control process is made up of key benchmarks, which set sub goals to rate the progress towards the objective. For instance, 12 percent sale increase in six months objective should be analyzed on monthly bases. If the progress states that the sales have increased by 2 percent in a month, which means the company is on the right track for goals accomplishment. Fall in sales means that the strategies and tactics should be reviewed (Ferrell, 2008). Elements of Marketing Plan The elements of a marketing plan are a rough guide of documents of plans to be done and why it should be done. For a market plan to be good it should contain the following: Defining what to achieve- goals should be set to provide an overarching statement on what to achieve. Some of the goals are: raising awareness of the school, increasing the products in the business and introducing new products or services in the business. One should also know there objectives. The objectives should be SMART i.e. specific, measurable, achievable, realistic, and timed (Luther, 2011). Situation analysis- this is a very good idea to analyze the current situation and the outlook in terms ways which will influence the strategies and plan. Then one should know the strategies to use. The strategies usually describe how the objectives are achieved. This plan should contain ways which tries to address elements addressed by the SWOT analysis (McDonald, 2007). Segmentation- at this section, one should underst and the segments and love what is been offered and why. If one doesn’t love it, then they are not ready to build and manage  a marketing plan and they should go back and find what to offer and a set of markets. In this section, one documents with much details from segments one is targeting. Who are the groups, their characteristics and on how to identify them (Luther, 2011). Competitive Alternatives- this is a drafted list of the alternative of the products the customers would consider from the ones been offered. This section helps one to articulate what differentiates the products one is offering from the others in the same field. They are usually micro and not detailed features (Jain, 2009). Differentiated points of value- for this section, you should ask yourself the top 3 or 4 differentiators which you are offering and it differs from the other. This should not be about the features or technology. It includes services like delivery options, pricing, ease of use, and time to value among others. Messaging and positioning is another which involves working on the previous segments. It creates a lot of messages for the sections. In this segment, you should create not more than 3 or 4 messages that cross your main points (Pride, 2012). Marketing goals and measures- this is about the goals one has for the marketing plan. This section is set for marketing goals in a period covered in the marketing plan. The objectives states were one need to be. For an objective to be effective, it must be specific and detailed. Many of the companies use the term SMART to define a well defined objective. This term in objectivity means smart, measurable, achievable, realistic and timed. One should also ask about the metrics they would use which are related with the drafted goals. For, instance one can decide that the increase of the customer by a certain percentage is the main goal. This acquisition can be tied by visiting product signups, blog signups emails, abandon rates and many others (Fifield , 2007). Tactical plan, owners, budget- this are the plans which are used to implement the strategies. The plans should be detailed sufficiently to allocate, budget, resource, and to monitor progress. They should have timeframes and also allocate responsibilities. In regard to the above goals and measures, this is where you set the marketing plans so that they can drive those results and the cost which are related to those tactics. This tactics are divided into discreet items of work and assigned to an owner. And lastly is the timeline which needs to be broken down into plotted on timeline and work items hence they can be tracked on a regular basis (McDonald, 2007). Links between  Marketing Plan Elements Clearly discussion of links and/or independence between marketing plan elements The marketing plans elements can be linked through its objectives and goals. The objective and goals of the marketing plan should be SWOT (Strengths, weakness, opportunities and threats). Strengths- when listing the marketing plan, you should list the main strengths of that company and products/services. This section should not only include the strong holds of your business or products but also its profit margins, similar strengths and the successful current marketing campaign. These strengths are only related to your business only because they are internal factors (Jain, 2009). Weaknesses- for this section, the weakness of the business and products/services should be listed. The plan includes the areas that you feel need improvement in the business or the challenges which are limiting the expansions of the business. Weakness is also internal factors and addresses your business only (Burrow, 2012). Opportunities- when drafting the business plan, you should list the best opportunities which you believe would change your business or a new business which you believe your business can succeed. One should always know that a weakness can be an opportunity. If the weakness in a business is fixed, quality is maintained and faster delivery to customers is achieved. The section of opportunities is always external but they rely on the internal strengths (Burrow, 2012). Threats- what is believed to be the threat to business should be listed. Some of them include the government regulations, competitors, and changes in customer attitude towards the products or services and others. Threats are from external but also they rely on internal weakness or external factors which limit your resource or strengths (Luther, 2011). Assumptions Discussion of common misconceptions relating to a marketing plan Most of the companies have misconceptions about marketing which hinder them from promoting their products and services incase of competitive market. Some of the misconceptions are as follows. â€Å"The company is too small and does not need a marking plan†- marketing plan is always the blueprint on how to market your business. Its main purpose is to outline your messages, target audience, tactics, channels, budgets and offers. Without this plan, one can confuse prospects with wasting money. Every business even the small ones need a plan so as to run effectively (Ferrell, 2008). â€Å"We know what the customers want†-your currents customers are the  best prospects and it’s very important to understand customers. What they think, why they like buying from you etc. Many marketers usually think that they know what the customer think but they might go wrong (McDonald, 2007). â€Å"We need to market only so that we can prospects, but not the customers†- as a marketer you should not assume a customer. Every customer needs to be reinforced regularly so as to continue buying from you and not the competitor. As you promote to prospects, remember to promote to customers (Pride, 2012). â€Å"Though we can’t afford, we would like to market†- many marketers make wrong assumptions about the cost of marketing especially advertising in the media. One should never rule out a certain channel because they think it’s expensive. You may find that channel you ignored you could have accessed affordably (Burrow, 2012). â€Å"We don’t have to be on the social medial†- whatever you sell, you can attract your customers. If you can’t market your products, your competitors are actively been engaged in the media (Jain, 2009). Conclusion Marketing plan plays a key role in business management. It is the core blueprint which states the company’s overall marketing efforts. Marketing plans usually draw inputs from the functions are team initiated. Marketing planning is usually a continuous process which responds to changing market conditions. Marketing plans analyzes the potential customers and products and explains what motivates them for buying. Then marketing plan also includes the nature of the competition, market size, potential price and the potential strategies for reaching the customers. This enables the organization to fine tune their products or services to attract and keep customers. Market plan identifies price points, competition and target markets. It tries to explain how the organization attracts customers through trade show participation, advertisements and new referrals. It also explains how the business will overcome the competitive problems from other businesses. References Ferrell, O. (2008). Marketing strategy. Mason, OH: Thomson South-Western. Fifield, P. The Bolsheviks Victory †History Essay

The Bolsheviks Victory – History Essay Free Online Research Papers The Bolsheviks’ Victory History Essay The Bolsheviks were victorious because they were a stronger, more cohesive team than those of the White Army. It can be argued that for any civil war to come to a definite end, one side must be decisively victorious. Since history can attest to the Bolsheviks’ victory, it can be argued that they won primarily because of their own strengths and not because of their enemies’ shortcomings. When examined more closely, it can be seen that the Bolsheviks’ were superior in their economic, military and political policies and could therefore decisively defeat the White Army. Centralized Position (Economic Strengths) Seized power in Petrograd, Moscow and consolidated their power in Central Russia, forcing Whites to build bases in largely non-Russian territories Bolsheviks controlled populated urban centres, industry and fertile agricultural lands. They had prepared defence positions that were easy to defend against White attacks – and they were forced to attack to try and wrestle the two capitals away. With such heavily industrialized region, the Bolsheviks were less dependent on foreign aid than Whites. Bolsheviks were able to coordinate military operations in a more rational way, especially with use of railways. Superior Army Administration (Military Strengths) Red army adopted best aspects of Imperial army – especially administration, barracks and depots Had strict mobilization orders and were methodical about them May 1918 – 306,000 men Dec 1920 – over 445,000 administrators alone Mobilized 5.5 million men, 800,000 were actual combatants This was only possible through the cooperation and coordination of the military, security and political organizations. Trotsky not afraid to discard â€Å"revolutionary innovations† to make Red Army efficient effective No longer elected by men, but appointed w/ authority ? Appointed former Imperial officers to command (called Specialists) o Had party Cadres attached to every one, to keep an eye on them so they don’t defect o Held their families hostage to ensure loyalty o Efficient use of Cheka Security to keep Red Army in check (Capital punishment used) Trotsky not afraid to reorganize command structure o After loss of Perm in Dec. 1918 ? Understood tactics necessary to quell rebellion by peasants – when negotiations failed, the Cheka stepped in to â€Å"take care† of the peasants ? This form of terror and intelligent organization made the Red Army function in the field of battle ? Raised morale by showing up at front lines ? Red Army is largely responsible for Bolshevik victory ? Bolsheviks’ administration – collected grain efficiently, dealt with White leaders quietly, thoroughly searched for arms and executed those withholding them Ideology and Propaganda (Political Strengths) Based their power on majority of people represented by Soviets – replaced Soviets with only Bolsheviks, claim was now true Nov 1917: Got peasants on their side by proclaiming seized lands now in hands of peasants o Even though contradicting the party’s own precepts He didn’t make extravagant promises – Red propaganda destroyed White claims of restoration of democracy or empire in Russia easily. Handled foreign affairs well – no ties to former allies of Russia: fresh start, new approach. All were politicians, not diplomats, so they could play their enemies off of one another o Whites appeared to be puppets of Britain and France, while Reds were Russian patriots While still extreme, Lenin’s political decisions led Bolsheviks to victory o handing land to peasants o policy of non-commitment to foreign powers o policies came first, civil war later – regular meeting of leadership, held elections All major military decisions were still made by Lenin Counter-Points ? White army had many of the former Imperial Army’s top generals and officers so their high levels in the military had a lot of tactical and strategic experience ? White army practically had the monopoly of former Imperial Administrators, which gave them a distinct advantage in terms of experience on how things should be run. ? The White army not only received financial aid from various global powers, but also received troops to help bolster their ranks from these various powers. How to Stand Out in a Competitive Job Market

How to Stand Out in a Competitive Job Market Due to the high volume of overqualified, over-degreed candidates flooding the market, you should always do as much as you can to distinguish yourself. This includes developing new skills, earning new qualifications and certifications, and sometimes, keeping a shrewd eye on skill sets that are most valuable across the widest swath of jobs. Here are three particularly robust and versatile skills that will render you invaluable to almost any employer.1. Business DevelopmentThis isn’t just for sales positions. At the end of the day, there are aspects of every job that require sales skills. And every business has people in roles that function as a kind of internal customer. Learning how to pitch ideas, appease different team members’ needs, and communicate effectively will help you build relationships, please the people you work with, and prove that you have what it takes to hold a team or a company together. It also never hurts to learn to sell what you need and want most.2 . Data AnalysisData is everywhere. From small to big to massive. And knowing how to handle it is becoming a necessary skill- and one in higher and higher demand. No matter what your field, or position within your company (HR, communications, accounting, marketing), being able to mine data for useful information and then present that information is key. You’ll also need to bump up your oral and written communication skills, which will always be a plus. And be sure to stay up on the latest data extraction software platforms and techniques. Do this, and you’ll stay ahead of this burgeoning curve.3. Leadership SkillsNot just â€Å"being a boss† or â€Å"managing a team† or â€Å"training new employees.† Many companies are looking for something a bit more ineffable, and much more useful. Catapult yourself to the top of the leadership line by demonstrating your fluency in collaboration (playing nicely with others and getting real results in the process), decision-making (aka taking the reins and exercising good judgment and control), and mentoring (really nurturing and bringing along younger or more inexperienced colleagues). The more you can prove that you’re an ethical, well-respected, well-liked colleague and/or supervisor, the more a hiring manager or boss will notice and start getting really excited about hiring you- or doing everything they can to keep you on board.Developing these skills is not a simple fix- more like a career-long strategy. But a very shrewd one that will prove to be rewarding, no matter what the outcomes.

Group therapy techniques Essay Example | Topics and Well Written Essays - 500 words

Group therapy techniques - Essay Example The problem is that in therapy most of what is really meant is said non-verbally, so leaders need to pay special attention. For instance, Kline and Johannsen (1935) noted that the face is the primary way to identify the nature of the emotional response, and Mehrabian (1971) found that facial expressions were believed when words and expressions were inconsistent. Group leaders are required to be highly observant, if a member is blocking his/her emotions and the group leader fails to notice that it could lead to unexpected and tetchy outcomes. It is also essential for them to be aware of their own body language and facial expression lest they convey the wrong message. Group members want to feel like the leader isn’t judging them and yet is someone who is better off than them, i.e. someone who can help them. Group leaders need to make members feel like he/she is one of them and is still in a position to assist in every possible way. For this to be possible the depth of how well they understand their emotions and also of how well they understand needs to be conveyed. It should go without saying that confidentially is a key feature of any sort of leadership, it part of expected behavior. When it comes to group therapy, this fact needs to be re-emphasized to leaders. It is requisite for members to feel safe and believe that leaders can be entrusted with such personal information to progress in their sessions and reveal their true-selves. While it is true that it is only the members themselves that have control over what they disclose, they may be made to feel so comfortable that information that they usually wouldn’t want to divulge may just come out in the intensity of the moment. Obviously they need assurance that their privacy will be respected and once they have that trust they will be even more comfortable and this in turn

Legislative Brief Essay Example | Topics and Well Written Essays - 2000 words

Legislative Brief - Essay Example The government needs to take a number of drastic steps in the coming years in order to reduce our dependence on hydrocarbons, plus change the culture of America to make it generally more green. Only then will we turn back the clock on our environmental problems. The world’s climate is changing and the consequences are far reaching. When examining this important issue we must be sure to have our facts straight. Even before looking at the consequences and possible solutions, it is necessary to determine what is causing this phenomenon. Some people say climate change is part of a natural process which happens every few centuries and which caused the ice age and other periods in Earth’s history in which the temperature was different. This might be true. But many scientists believe that human beings cause global warming (Coren). They say it is caused by the huge amount of cars we drive on our roads and by our coal plants and our thousands of factories. These people say we have simply not been good stewards of the Earth and are now responsible for the fact that the surface of the planet seems to be warming because of trapped gases. Our fossil fuel use is the main reason those gases are present. Every time we drive a car to school or work, use electricity, or heat our houses, we are releasing carbon dioxide into the air and making our planet hotter. Another important source of greenhouse gases is caused by deforestation, mainly in the Amazon. There is a lot of money to be made in cutting down trees and planting land for animals to use so the animals can be made into hamburgers at the end of the day. Cattle itself is said by some people to be in part responsible for increasing the amount of methane in the atmosphere (Flannery, 201). So much of what we do to stay alive and to make money appears to be hurting our planet, according to scientists who are increasingly vocal about this important

Initial Report Essay Example | Topics and Well Written Essays - 750 words

Initial Report - Essay Example In this context, mathematics and especially algebra are regarded as having a significant role in the development of all aspects of human life mostly because of their use in several other sciences like physics, chemistry, medicine, astronomy and so on. In fact algebra is considered to be among the first sciences developed by human. Findings from ancient civilizations have proved the use of algebra in ancient times as a basic tool of commerce and astronomy. Through the years, the use of algebra has been extended to all industrial sectors. One of the periods that have been characterized by radical changes in sciences (including algebra) is Renaissance. During this period, the development of algebra reached extremely high levels offering the appropriate framework for the improvement of all other sciences related with algebra either directly or indirectly. This project has been divided in two main parts. In this context, in Chapter One all the details related with the choice of the subject (such as the statement of the problem, the research methodology and the reasons for choice of the project) are presented. The project is mainly developed in Chapter Two which has been divided into sub-sections in order to cover more effectively the issue under examination. In this context, in Chapter Two all particular aspects of algebra – as part of modern science - are presented while a short reference is made to the history of algebra in the pre-Renaissance period. Also, in Chapter Two the history of algebra after the Renaissance is analytically explained making primarily a short reference to the influence of Renaissance in algebra as it has been evaluated by historians of the particular period. Finally, in Chapter Three Conclusions and Recommendations on the subject under examination are made taking into account the characteristics of alg ebra as developed through

Elasticity Experiment: Application of Hookes Law

Elasticity Experiment: Application of Hookes Law Nguyen Manh Tri Investigation of elasticity Introduction General statement Any string that able to stretch and come back its original length can be considered as a spring. Each spring has constant of elasticity (stiffness) that depends on its material. A simple spring generally is made from metal. Background Elastic forces of the springs appear at the ends of the springs and material effect on the contact or association with it as it is deformed (Elert, 1998). The direction of elastic force counters the direction of the external force causing deformation. Specifically, when stretched, the elastic force of the spring towards the axis of the spring on the inside; even when compressed, the elastic force of the spring axis oriented outwards. The most popular law of elasticity is Hooke’s law. When a force is applied to an elastic object, the object will be stretched. A change in length à ¢Ã‹â€ Ã¢â‚¬  l is formed. In the elastic limit, the magnitude of the elastic force of the spring is proportional to the deformation of the spring. Hooke’s law can be expressed as = k () where k is a constant value which shows the stiffness of the object (BelenkiÄ , Salaev and SuleÄ manov, 1988). The k value has unit of newton per meter. A spring of length l1 is hung up by a bracket as shown in figure 1. If a mass is applied to the other end the spring, the spring will be stretched, resilient until all the energy is gone and form a new length l2. Then the system is balanced, the applied force, the weight of the mass, must equal the restoring force Mg = k(l2 – l1) = kà ¢Ã‹â€ Ã¢â‚¬  l Figure 1 Mathematically, Mg = k can be written as à ¢Ã‹â€ Ã¢â‚¬  l = [1.0] Equation [1.0] also can be performed as a linear equation (Treloar and Dunn, 1974) y = mx where y is à ¢Ã‹â€ Ã¢â‚¬  l and x is M. Then if we hang more and more weights for the spring and measure the length à ¢Ã‹â€ Ã¢â‚¬  l for each, the gradient of the graph is (Bbc.co.uk, 2014). Consequently, we can find the constant value k by calculating the gradient. For rubber or steel wire rope elastic force only when external forces are stretched. In this case the elastic force is called tension. Tension set point and direction like elastic force of the spring. For the contact surface is deformed when pressed against each other, with the elastic force perpendicular to the contact surface. Aims To determine the constant of elasticity of several different springs To find out the elastic limit. Hypothesis There are number of factors which affect the springs’ constant. One of these factors is the types of material, which makes the stiffness of springs different. Hookes law is accurate with simple objects such as springs. With material such as rubber or plastics, the dependence between the elastic forces in the deformation could more complicate (BelenkiÄ , Salaev and SuleÄ manov, 1988). In essence, the elastic interaction forces between molecules or atoms, i.e. the electromagnetic force between electrons and protons inside the elastic material. When the large deformation to a certain value, the elastic force does not appear again, and this value is called the elastic limit, if you exceed the time limit elastic deformation material will not be able to return original shape after impact not deform more. Figure 2: Elastic limit Method and Materials Figure 3: Experimental set-up Method The experiment was set up as shown in figure 3. The retort stand was placed firmly on the table. A spring was attached to the retort stand. The length of the spring (l1) in rest state was measured (using ruler) and recorded. The mass hanger (10 grams) was hung up the other end of the spring. New length of the spring (after applied the mass hanger) was measured (using ruler) and recorded. The change of length of the spring was calculated and recorded. One set of data was obtained afterwards. A weight was placed on the mass hanger. New length of the spring (after applied the weight) was measured (using ruler) and recorded. The change of length of the spring was calculated and recorded. Another set of data was obtained afterwards. Another weight was placed (20 grams total) and step 8 was then repeated. Step 9 was repeated until no weight left. 8 other sets of data were obtained afterwards. Steps 3 to 10 were repeated for the new springs (the remaining 2 springs). Finally, 30 sets of data were obtained (10 sets each spring). Results Table 1: First spring results l1 for the first spring = 13 mm M (g) l2 (mm) à ¢Ã‹â€ Ã¢â‚¬  l = l2 – l1 (mm) 10 14 1 20 16 3 30 18 5 40 20 7 50 21 8 60 24 11 70 25 12 80 25 12 90 28 15 100 31 18 Table 2: Second spring results l1 for the first spring = 20 mm M (g) l2 (mm) à ¢Ã‹â€ Ã¢â‚¬  l = l2 – l1 (mm) 10 20 0 20 20 0 30 22 2 40 24 4 50 28 8 60 32 12 70 35 15 80 39 19 90 42 22 100 46 26 Table 3: Third spring results l1 for the first spring = 20 mm M (g) l2 (mm) à ¢Ã‹â€ Ã¢â‚¬  l = l2 – l1 (mm) 10 20 0 20 20 0 30 20 0 40 22 2 50 24 4 60 27 7 70 32 12 80 34 14 90 38 18 100 40 20 Figure 4: Change of length against mass for the first spring Figure 5: Change of length against mass for the second spring Figure 6: Change of length against mass for the third spring As shown in figure 4, 5, and 6 three straight lines are formed and show a trend that the weight increases with increasing à ¢Ã‹â€ Ã¢â‚¬  l. Discussion Calculation – Results from part 1 experiment From figure 4, y = 0.1834x 1 therefore, gradient (m1) = 0.1834 mm/g From figure 5, y = 0.3062x 6 therefore, gradient (m2) = 0.3062 mm/g From figure 6, y = 0.2774x 8 therefore, gradient (m3) = 0.2774 mm/g Since the spring constants are measured by gradient (m) = therefore, k = We also have g = 9.81 (ms-2), k1 = = = 53.50 mmgs-2 k2 = = = 32.04 mmgs-2 k3 = = = 35.36 mmgs-2 Results analysis Because of above factors, some points such as (10; 0) from figure 5 and (10; 0), (20; 0) from figure 6 are not involved in the trend line. The smallest share of the ruler is 1mm so it is unable to distinguish the à ¢Ã‹â€ Ã¢â‚¬  l between 0 gram and 10, 20 grams. Parallax error also is a cause of these strange points. Because of the very first à ¢Ã‹â€ Ã¢â‚¬  l are too small, wrong angles between eyes and ruler may cause the errors of these points. Y-intercepts for 3 springs are -1, -6 and -8 respectively. The y-intercept -1 is a very small value and is able to show the accuracy of the experiment. The others two are much bigger because of different constant k values of springs (53.50, 32.04 and 35.36 respectively). For the first spring, which has k value are 53.50, it is much easier to distinguish different à ¢Ã‹â€ Ã¢â‚¬  l values for the first weights. Consequently, there is no strange point is recorded for this spring, all the points involves in the trend line. For the last two springs, k values are almost half of the first one and it hard to distinguish à ¢Ã‹â€ Ã¢â‚¬  l values for the first weights. This is the reason why strange points are recorded and do not involve in the trend lines. Consequently, the trend lines of these springs tend to go far away the origins when pass the y-axis. Errors analysis and other factors affecting the experiment Parallax error Parallax error is the most popular error in physics (Aphysicsteacher.blogspot.co.uk, 2009). Because this experiment contain many small values (smaller than mm), so parallax error may cause many wrong data and strange points. The concept of parallax error is related to the term parallax. For instance, in figure 7, different positions of eyes result in 3 values for the measurement (two of them are wrong values).Soparallax is the change in the apparent position of an object when the position of the observer changes. Figure 7: Example for parallax error Consequently, the accuracy of the measurement depends on the angle between eyes and ruler. Because of this error, à ¢Ã‹â€ Ã¢â‚¬  l values are slightly greater or smaller and results in slightly change of k values. To minimize this error, a pointer can be used to help read the scale on the ruler and the scale had to be viewed at eye level (Cyberphysics.co.uk, 2014). Temperature Materials’ thermal expansion coefficient ÃŽ ± and stiffness are connected. This connection is mathematically formulated as ÃŽ ± = where the ÃŽ ³G is a constant value (0.4 G ÃŽ ± is a constant value so if temperature is increased, density increases and stiffness increases; if temperature decreased, density decreases and stiffness decreases. Accuracy of ruler The smallest share of plastic ruler is 1mm. As mentioned above, there are many small values so it is necessary to consider the error percentage caused by accuracy of ruler. Improvement To minimize parallax error, a pointer can be used to help read the scale on the ruler and the scale had to be viewed at eye level (Cyberphysics.co.uk, 2014). To minimize temperature error, the air temperature should be held on standard (room temperature – 298K). To minimize accuracy of ruler error, an instrument which has small length accurately should be used (Mohindroo, 2006). The accuracy of the result can be greatly improved. Conclusion The constant of elasticity of 3 springs are 53.50, 32.04 and 35.36 respectively by calculating as mentioned above. Summarizing the three points, this experiment has met the objectives stated in the introduction. Knowledge about elasticity and constant of elasticity has learnt through this study. It is unable to find out the elastic limits because if keep adding weights until the springs can stretch more, the springs will be damaged and will not be able to come back its original shapes (Sadd, 2005). There are some factors are mentioned above, which are affect the results of this experiment. These factors do not change the results significantly (strange points were recorded only for the very first weights). Reference Bbc.co.uk, (2014). BBC GCSE Bitesize: Hookes Law. Drug Abuse Essays -- Substance Abuse Essays

Drug abuse dates as far back as the Biblical era, so it is not a new phenomenon. â€Å"The emotional and social damage and the devastation linked to drugs and their use is immeasurable.† The ripple of subversive and detrimental consequences from alcoholism, drug addictions, and addictive behavior is appalling. Among the long list of effects is lost productivity, anxiety, depression, increased crime rate, probable incarceration, frequent illness, and premature death. The limitless consequences include the destruction to personal development, relationships, and families (Henderson 1-2). â€Å"Understandably, Americans consider drug abuse to be one of the most serious problems† in the fabric of society. And although â€Å"addiction is the result of voluntary drug use, addiction is no longer voluntary behavior, it’s uncontrollable behavior,† says Alan Leshner, director of the National Institute on Drug Abuse (Torr 12-13).   Ã‚  Ã‚  Ã‚  Ã‚  Addiction is a progressive, chronic, and ultimately a fatal disease. It is progressive in the sense that if it is left untreated it will get worse. Chronic means long term. Once one becomes dependent, it is like diabetes, in that diabetes is an incurable disease that can only be controlled. Long-term addictions have the high potential to lead to death through overdose, AIDs, suicide, or an accident (Aronson 17). The cycle of addiction tends to follow a pattern.   Ã‚  Ã‚  Ã‚  Ã‚  People first take drugs for many different reasons. Early on, drug experimentation can stem from curiosity, peer pressure and influence, or because of the environment people live in (Nagle 17). For example, in the East Side of downtown it is apparent that drug dealing and drug usage is prevalent. The police recently arrested 54 individuals from the East Side. Unfortunately it was just one block out of approximately 50 more on that side of town.   Ã‚  Ã‚  Ã‚  Ã‚  Next comes the social use stage. This is the stage where most individuals tend to stop or control their usage. People will try it and occasionally use drugs to â€Å"cut loose†, party, and have a good time, generally if, and only if, everyone else around them is doing it. Otherwise they could either take it or leave it and don’t necessarily seek out illegal drugs.   Ã‚  Ã‚  Ã‚  Ã‚  However, as a tolerance to the substances begins to build and the social group changes from friends in the same peer group to primarily drug users and abusers, that is when the drug... ...er says, that â€Å"eventually, the drugs decrease the person’s ability to experience pleasure without a drug† (Torr 13).   Ã‚  Ã‚  Ã‚  Ã‚  Enfin, one of the most browbeating and frustrating things in the world is the disease of addiction. It is a progressive, chronic, and often fatal disease that takes control of life away from people. However, â€Å"drugs are here to stay, and...we have no choice but to learn how to live with them so that they cause the least possible harm† (Torr 116). Unfortunately, ten percent of all eighth graders and twenty percent of all tenth graders are using marijuana at least once a month (Torr 38). Works Cited Aronson, Virginia. "Junior Drug Awareness." Smart Kids

Will you ever find a star quarterback on the high school debate team, Chess Club, or any other academic team that would place him as a nerd? According to Grant Penrod and his essay Anti-Intellectualism: Why We Hate Smart Kids this would probably not happen (Bullock,691). You can be a jock, but you can’t be a â€Å"nerd† at the same time. The winning football team always goes down in history, but the winning academic teams are never remembered. Thinking back to high school you can see billboards of the football team winning state, but not for the state brain-bowl winners.Social destruction is possible for those who show too much intelligence. â€Å"Geek,† â€Å"Nerd,† or â€Å"High Achiever† no matter the name given; they are doomed for destruction in the social world. The intellectual student bears a mark on him/her for social pitfall especially in high school. Sometimes this may happen in the early elementary years. They are usually targeted on web sites and blogs; left out of social events. Take the blog excerpt from Talking-Cock. com â€Å"Man how I hate nerds†¦. if I ever had a tommygun with me†¦I would most probably blow each one of their heads off. (Bullock,691) There are other websites that talk about test score postings, and don’t these people referencing nerds and geeks have a life. This miss conception is partly due to the un-intelligent thinking that all smart people do is study. Failing to realize that the intelligent people are the ones that help move the world along; this miss conception it actually leaves the un-intelligent out. The media places celebrities and other public figures without a strong education in the limelight, which is harmful to our youth’s minds. This type of high regards for someone lacking good education, further promotes the way society treats those that are educated. If you take a young high school student who has some athletic ability chances of him/her pursuing the highest academic achievements are less than them going after that athletic win. A choir student may go for the Nashville break instead of pursuing a degree in school. Displaying celebrities’ lives and their income only encourages young minds to seek other ways of living without getting educated.A website that demonstrates this is Angelfire. com it promotes famous high school dropouts like Christian Aguilera, Kid Rock, L. L. Cool J and Sammy Sosa. (Bullock,693) Some people have no regards for the intelligence that lead them to where we are in society today. People would rather choose to be rich than to have some means of keeping their wealth. Ignoring that intelligent people are the ones that helped make the progress of the world, and because they are forgotten this is why many individuals do not finish their education. The anti-intelligent want to blame the media, but in all reality it is the common everyday person who is to blame for ostracizing the intelligent. The following is a poem that was written and appeared on TeenMag. com and illustrates the feelings of a nerd that has been out casted. My loud and bitter screams aren’t being heard No one is there to hear them or to care They do not come cuz I’m a nerd Dealing with this pain is a lot to bear. (Casey F. )Society as a whole needs to take a step back and realize who got us to where we are today; how we got to where we are today. Intelligent people need to be given the due credit for their works in society and not shunned away. Grant Penrod’s Essay Anti-Intellectualism Why We Hate Smart the Kids is very clear on the devastating social destruction of those that are smart.
